BKM is a Māori artist born and raised in a rural town in the lower North Island of Aotearoa. Nurturing their creativity and their passion for the beauty of the land - BKM pursued art in many forms since they were a child. As of 2018, BKM currently lives and works as a freelance illustrator in northern Vietnam.

Inspired by history and nature, BKM's work encompasses a diverse set of styles and tones. From vibrant whimsy to melancholic reality to the bizarre and unsettling - BKM is a storyteller and considers their art an extension of this. Themes of identity, mental health and contemporary social issues are explored by BKM as a way to reconnect to their culture and to the world around them.

Their outside interests include writing and baking along with taking long, aimless walks among nature as a break from being a hermit tucked away at home during projects.
